Choosing A Career Or Profession

English Essay # 5 I believe that a career or profession should be chosen with great care and that it should not be taken lightly. A career or profession should be something that you enjoy doing because you will be doing it for many years to come. So I took time and care when deciding what I wanted to do for the rest of my working career. The reason I chose to be a We Administrator is because I enjoy spending time on the Internet and that’s where everything is happening and changing from day to day. This career is also in great demand and is something I do currently for fun, so why not get paid for it? I believe that I am a great speaker and as a web administrator I would be able to voice my opinion out to the large masses of people. There is also ample opportunity in this field and I don’t believe finding a job in this profession would be of great difficulty. Looking for work would be simple, especially after attending a great college such as yours. This would give me a degree I would need to prove that I know what I am doing. Essay topic : Should a factory be built in your community?

There must still be negative thoughts that a factory should not be set up near a community. Although it is likely that no one totally oppose against the opinion, a serious consideration for the advantages and disadvantages of growing a factory in a certain place is a logical necessity. In fact, it can bring benefits to this locality while it cannot do to another. As for the area where I am living, a larger number of its people including me are supporting the decision to build up a factory in it.

The most positive and enormous advantage to be found is that it can turn the place into a more modern and convenient one. The fact that a lot more people will move to the area for jobs and easier lives is a motive to construct more apartments and houses. In the wake of the population growth, shopping malls, hospitals, and schools turn up. Its residents will not have to travel a long distance downtown to go shopping or to visit health center to see doctors. The better schools will be places to train people to become good and responsible citizens and to offer virtuous talents to lead the community to further development. Life then will be a comfort.

In addition, since a factory needs employees to work in it, it will tackle the unemployment problem. With so many people are not offered jobs becoming jobless, burglaries and robberies go up. Therefore, unemployment is being regarded as the primary problem of economic policy. To handle that, allowing a factory is a must. When people can earn money and have jobs to do, the society will not only be lighten this kind of burden it is carrying but also assist to reduce others. An example is charity. People who can earn money can help less lucky others.

The last but not least advantage is that since many jobs and opportunities are offered, a large factory moves many people with different cultures and thoughts to the community. As a result, chance to enrich knowledge and to broaden experience arises. The local people will have a wide variety of mental lives. For instance, they will add more kinds of food to their meals. These kinds may be brought by the immigrants from other parts of the nation. Further more, they will relax with a diversity of entertainment.

To sum up, although there are some disadvantages such as noise, harmful exhaust, traffic jams, the benefits the factory provide totally convince me to admit that it is advisable to have a large factory in my community in the hope that the region become better.

Essay topic: What in your opinion are the qualities of a good judge?

The judiciary, especially in a democratic state, is well known for its impartiality. In numerous cases it has taken decisions even against the state for the achievement of the ends of justice. This impartiality of the judicial system in a democratic state can be attributed to the good qualities of judges who have always asserted their independence from executive control. The qualities of a good judge include patience, wisdom, courage, firmness, alertness, incorruptibility and the gifts of sympathy and insight. In a democracy, a judge is accorded great respect by the state as well as its citizens. He is not only permitted to assert his freedom and impartiality but also expected to use all his forensic skill to protect the rights of the individual against arbitrariness. Though such a state of affairs makes it easy for the judge to exercise his functions, he still requires many qualities to perform his duties effectively. In the execution of his functions, a judge has to exercise patience and alertness so that he can hear all the arguments of the contending parties to a dispute and arrive at a wise decision. An impatient judge can hardly act with reason, however wise he may be. Patience and alertness are therefore essential qualities of a good judge. The decisions of a judge sometimes provoke the anger of certain individuals and he becomes the victim of revenge. In condemning a person to death, for example, a judge might cause the relatives of the condemned man to nurse feelings of revenge against him. The life of the judge is thus exposed to danger, sometimes even after his retirement from judicial service. Therefore, a good judge is also a man of courage, who is incorruptible and prepared to accept the consequences of his decisions. A pusillanimous and corruptible judge is no bulwark of justice.A good judge is, however, not destitute of sympathy. He considers the feelings of all parties with sympathy and understanding. His knowledge of the law and human affairs is so extensive that he experiences little difficulty in grasping the main issues of the dispute quickly. His insight into human nature enables him to detect the criminal almost immediately; yet he is prepared, at times to set the accused free if the charge against him is not framed properly by the police. This proves his impartiality, an attribute that inspires the confidence of the citizens in his ability and sense of justice. These arguments point to the conclusion that a good judge is a person of many qualities.

The work of a farmer

The life of a farmer is hard. He works from early morning till late in the evening in a distant corner of the country. Yet, no one cares much for him.But the work of a farmer is a very important. He produces food for people in the towns and other places. Without him there would be no food around. People would not be able to do their work.Even doctors who save lives cannot do their work without the food that the farmer grows. In the same way, teachers, engineers, clerks and all others must have food before they can do their work. However, very few people think of the importance of the farmer’s work.We think of the farmer only when there is no food around. We are then forced to grow our own food. So we cannot do any other work. Even doctors may have to grow their own food if the farmer fails to grow food for them. All these show how important the work of the farmer is.

Essay topic: Journalism as a career

Almost everyone who can read and write sometimes feels the urge to write on some favorite topic. Some people however love writing so much that they spend much of their time writing something on various subjects for the sheer pleasure of writing. Such people usually become skillful writers; and if the ability to write with ease and facility was enough to achieve success in the field of journalism, many people would make journalism their career. In countries like England and Japan, where there are hundreds of newspapers and journals, journalism is an attractive profession. It is very good source or income to many. But in Malaysia there are so few newspapers and journals that journalism offers almost no prospect of success. Even in England and Japan, however, many people have failed to achieve any success in this field. To be successful in journalism, one must have many other qualities, besides the ability to judge what the average reader likes or dislikes. If one writes for a political journal, he or she should have a fair knowledge of what the readers of that journal expect from it. If one writes for a women’s journal, that person should know almost instinctively what its readers prefer. Accordingly, the journalist should gather information from all possible sources for his articles and stories for publication. He may even have to distort or omit certain facts and information, in which his judgment may appear unpleasant to his readers. Further, if certain unpleasant facts have to be revealed to his readers, he has to employ words with such skill that his readers will take almost no offense. All these require great intellectual qualities.Besides, to collect information, the journalist has to travel extensively and meet many people, far and near. As too much traveling involve great physical activity, the journalist has to pay sufficient attention to his health to keep himself strong. He has also to cultivate pleasing habits to meet all sorts of people. He must also be prepared to work under very unpleasant circumstances. For example, if he is working for a popular newspaper, he may have to be at the scene or a battle and risk his life to send his report to his newspaper office. All this involves great personal sacrifice. Finally, a good journalist should have a good grasp of the constitutional rights of the citizens of his country and the policies of his government. He should also know the laws of libel and slander. Ignorance of any or these may lead him to make unfair criticisms and disclosures which may cause serious troubles in the country. Thus, success in journalism is not easy to attain, and only a few people make it their career.
